May was hot and sunny! The week prior to Ironman brought yellow and orange alerts as the temperature forecast was predicting 38 degrees, the calima wasn’t particularly dusty but it was seriously hot and we felt hardly a breeze from the 12th to 16th May. March weather in Lanzarote

Another dry month for Lanzarote, we had a brief one day alert for strong hot winds and a calima on the 8th March which caused the temperature to rise to 28 degrees in places. Sadly the yellow alert issued later in the month for adverse sea conditions resulted in the loss of two fishermen when their boat sank off the coast of Arrecife. The month has been predominantly sunny with daytime temperatures from 20-23 degrees, the wind has been variable changing from the North East to a Westerly for the end of the month which created a thick cloud formation along the Risco de Famara.

Stone shaped heart on a beach in Lanzarote

The month of February has been incredible! There were very strong winds and waves in the first week causing havoc with the Enduroman triathlon event that weekend, swimmers faced 2m waves and cyclists braved winds gusting up to 70 km/h. We’ve felt cold in the evenings, this was due to the clearer skies and cool wind however the days have generally been warm and sunny with top temperatures consistently reaching 18-21 degrees. The carnivals of Arrecife and Puerto del Carmen were blessed with good weather this year which makes it all the more enjoyable for the thousands of tourists lining the streets to watch the processions. The island is now very dry with the lack of rainfall, normally the hills are bursting with carpets of colour at this time of year as the wildflowers blossom.
