UD Lanzarote 3 CD Tenerife 2

It has always been great game between these two sides and this was no exception. Both teams must be applauded for how they fought in such heat. At kick off it was 36 degrees and how the pace of the game continued throughout the match was incredible. Even the bar run out of water but fortunately the beer was still flowing.

Lanzarote began the game in great style. Just three minutes in and captain Rosmen sent winger Toñito through with a well measured pass and Lanzarote´s number 11 made no  mistake surprising the Tenerife goalkeeper by beating him at the near post to send his side 1-0 up.

In the 8th minute a deep cross from Marcos Cabrera found Toñito and from a narrow angle the winger with all the confidence in the world blasted a volley from a  read more »

CD Vera 1 UD Lanzarote 2

The Rojillos still remain unbeaten after this terrific away win in Tenerife.  Lanzarote were down to ten men when new boy Miguel Gómez fired in to give his side all three points and move Lanzarote up to fourth spot.

Both teams played a good first half with each side having one good opportunity to take the lead. In the 6th minute a Miguel Gómez header forced the Tenerife goalkeeper into a good save and in the 23rd minute Tenerife midfielder Dani Muni hit the post from a headed effort following a corner.

CD Vera began the season terribly with two losses but there last three games they have picked up seven out of nine points and were playing some good football though lacked any promise in the final third.

Whilst the first period may have been entertaining the second half proved to be much better. In the 57th minute Louis Kennedy put through striker Mauri whose pace out did the home defence and from an acute angle slid the ball under the advancing keeper to give the Rojillos a 0-1 lead.

The home side brought on striker Oscar and it was his pass in the 64thminute that gifted striker Amray the equaliser.  Things got even more problematic for the visitors when striker Mauri was given a straight red card in the 72nd minute so Lanzarote were forced to play the final twenty minutes with ten men.

UD Lanzarote 1 CF Arucas 1

The Rojillos are one of only two teams who remain unbeaten after their first five games, the other side being league leaders Santa Brígida but they will be bitterly disappointed to have made it three draws in a row in a game they dominated.

UD Lanzarote Miguel Gomez

The Gran Canarian side are famous within all the Canary Islands for their dark rum and I don’t mean that honey rum stuff.  It is called Ron Arehucas normally mixed with coke; locals like to call it Amariilo y cola. One glass is nice but takes its time going down; the next oozes down the throat at a gallop then you normally lose count.

It did seem that the Gran Canarian side must have given Lanzarote a crate load the night before as the Rojillos were not in this game at all in the opening 25 minutes. Possession belonged to Lanzarote but it was the Gran Canarian side that always looked the more threatening.

At least three good opportunities went beckoning for the visitors before they took the lead including a thunderous strike from the edge of the box which produced an incredible fingertip reflex save from the Lanzarote keeper Agoney.

In the 21st minute Arucas took a deserved 0-1 lead. A low powerful cross from left winger Moisés found team mate Iván Suárez who seemed to have so much time on his hands that he could have poured himself an amarillo y cola before neatly planting the ball wide of Agoney into the bottom corner to give his side the lead.

This goal brought Lanzarote to life and in the  read more »

UD Lanzarote 2 Villa Santa Brigida 2

Last season this game ended in a spectacular 4-4 draw and from the opening minute it looked as though we were in for another wonder match. The first half was superb but with the temperature in the 30´s the game inevitably slowed but was still highly competitive till the end.

The Gran Canarian outfit who were for many years a regular in Segunda B (League 1) alongside Lanzarote were paying absolutely no respect for Lanzarote´s 22 match unbeaten home run and were threatening on the counter attack.

In the 11th min striker Santi broke through the centre of the Rojillo defence and it was a race between the striker and the Lanzarote keeper Agoney to who would get their first.  There was contact, absolutely no doubt about that but Lanzarote did argue that Agoney did touch the ball. The end result was a penalty for the visitors but just a yellow card for Agoney. Nobody argued from either side but had this been a poorer Ref it could have been a sending off the Lanzarote keeper. Great decision Ref.

Defender Carreño fired with precision to give his side the early 0-1 advantage. This goal sparked Lanzarote into action and produced a first half which easily matched last season’s incredible game. Marcos Cabrera, Vladi and Brad began to stamp their authority in midfield whilst Rosmen showed what a great target man he is and for a big lad he is wonderful with his control and has unexpected quick feet.

In the 19th minute Toñito had a good effort blocked but just three minutes later Lanzarote were level. A free kick from the right was whipped in by  read more »

Puerto Calero's Big Sport Fishing Competition - Tono's Story

We have a huge sport fishing competition every year here in Lanzarote, called Concurso de Pesca Altura, and it is based at the marina in Puerto Calero. It’s known unofficially as The Marlin cup. Last year we were delighted when our friend Paul, who runs Lanzarote Fishing, and his boat Tono, won the trophy.

Earlier this year, Tono was almost destroyed in a fire (all the crew members were safely rescued,) and nobody knew if she could be repaired in time to defend her title. Paul, his crew and their friend Kenny worked tirelessly to bring Tono back from the ashes, and the boat proudly motored out  read more »
