UD Lanzarote 3 Union Viera 2

On Sunday morning in intense heat both teams produced a real spectacle. Lanzarote going in front then the Tenerife side taking the lead and with just six minutes remaining and with only ten men the Rojillos fought back with Javi Melíán scoring the winner in the 92nd minute.

In the opening 15 minutes Lanzarote edged possession but the visitors looked dangerous on the break. Lanzarote had the first good opportunity of the match in the 11th minute when Rosmen put through his fellow striker Mauri, the Colombian hit his strike low though the Tenerife keeper made a good save. A couple of minute’s later defender Adrián Barrera found himself unmarked at the far post but failed with his header to hit the target.

On the half hour the visitors had a good claim for a penalty turned down. Striker, Captain and a general pain in the backside for the Lanzarote defence the whole match Ale Peraza felt as though he had his shirt pulled in the area but the Ref waived away his claims. Later on the striker should have been booked for a ridiculous dive in the penalty area but the Ref ignored this as well.

The Rojillos made the breakthrough on the stroke of half time. Toñito curled in a corner from the right and Rosmen seemed to hang in mid air then powered in a rocket of a header into the top right hand corner giving his side a 1-0 advantage to take into the half time break.

The Rojillos (The Reds) took over 100 fans to Fuerteventura who were all in a jovial mood but unfortunately this had to go down as the worst performance of the season. Lanzarote are still however the leaders of the division.

In the first minute of the match only a good save by Agoney prevented the home side from taking the lead. Against the run of play the Rojillos went in front on their first attack. Good work from the Colombian Mauri as he beat the left back and fired in a low shot, the keeper saved his effort but the rebound went high into the air and there are not many players who are going to out jump the towering frame of the Lanzarote skipper Rosmen who nodded the ball home into the empty net to give his side a 0-1 lead.

UD Lanzarote 2 Las Palmas B 1

It was first versus second with Lanzarote topping the table and the game certainly delivered on expectation. At times the Rojillos were playing some fantastic football but just as they were playing some of their best the Las Palmas B side hit back which led to a nervous finale to a superb match.

UD Lanzarote The-starting-line-up

Things are going extraordinarily well for the Rojillos (The Reds). Just beaten the second placed team, not lost a game all season and are one of only 11 teams in all Spanish National leagues who remain unbeaten alongside Real Madrid. Lanzarote have won their last five on the bounce and are now 27 games unbeaten at home which all leads to U.D. Lanzarote sitting at the pinnacle of the league table two points clear of the second placed side.

Please let me apologise to several people who were looking to buy merchandise at the clubs Megastore at the match. My daughter was ill and so I was on my own and customers were looking to buy as kick off approached. I quickly closed up to watch the match not offering apologies as I sprinted (hobbled) to the stand to take notes on the match.

So glad I got to my seat quick as this game got off to a flyer and  read more »

UD Lanzarote 1 SD Tenisca 0

The new leaders of the Canarian Tercera division (Fourth Tier) are U.D. Lanzarote. The stats look fantastic. 26 games unbeaten at home and the only remaining side in the league not to have tasted defeat this season.

This may not have been a master class performance but grinding out a result in such circumstances is what teams who win championships do.

To the annoyance of many, Lanzarote had to change the kick off time and date twice and because of this there were many fans that were unable to see the game. Perhaps it might be advisable for our La Palma friends to book a little in advance when needing a flight here as this is not the only time this has happened. Tenisca need two flights to get to Lanzarote and the match was brought forward as there were no seats left on the Sunday flight.

The Rojillos dominated the early stages though it was the visitors who had the first chance in the 12th minute when a corner was floated in deep and midfielder Jordan hit a volley which rattled the side netting.

Five minutes later and Toñito latched onto a pass and hit a powerful volley from a narrow angle which produced a fine diving save from the La Palma goalkeeper Aáron.  The Rojillos were now well on top and in the 28thminute Kennedy found himself with space and unleashed a good effort from 20 yards that narrowly missed the left hand post. Two minutes later and Captain Rosmen forced the keeper into another good save with a  read more »

The weekend could hardly have been better for the Rojillos, coming from behind to snatch the win and with all the other teams at the top dropping points Lanzarote have moved from fourth and nipped into second spot in the table.

Travelling to Tenerife without three of their regular starters, Rosmen (wife just had first baby), Mauri (suspension) and Brad Cockerill (injury) was not the ideal preparation however this season it does go to show what depth this squad has.
