UD Lanzarote 2 UD Las Palmas B 3

This must go down as the most exciting home game this season. For any neutral this game had the lot, goals, passion, intensity and quality football from both sides.

The Rojillos will feel hard done by as the Referee failed to award them an obvious penalty, sent off Lanzarote defender Raúl on the hour amidst a catalogue decisions that went against the home club all awarded by the official who is also from Las Palmas.

It’s wrong to blame referees and on reports I have done in the past I have rarely criticised the officials but on this occasion they were poor. Surely the football federation should not allow a referee to be from the same place of either of the teams.

Lanzarote knew that they had to be at their very best to take anything from the runaway league leaders but at their very best Lanzarote were which made it a wonderful game of football to watch.

From the opening whistle the Rojillos didn’t allow their opponents anytime to dwell on the ball and in particular Ayoze Pérez chased every ball forcing Las Palmas to commit errors.

In the third minute British boy Louis Kennedy won the ball in midfield and fed Ayoze on the right wing, his excellent cross was fired in low across the six yard box but unfortunately midfielder Javi Betancort put the ball wide when maybe he should have done better.

Lanzarote dominated the early stages but in the 12th minute a quick fire break from the visitors almost gave them the lead. The ball was swept wide on the left and left back Yeremi who was only last week in the first team squad that earned a 3-3 draw with Real Madrid in the Primera Liga fired in a brilliant cross which was met with a diving header from striker Siverio which cleared the crossbar by just a matter of inches.

Both sides were creating chances, a great long pass from the Lanzarote keeper saw Borja go through but just as he fired goal bound a Las Palmas defender deflected his effort away for a corner.  read more »
