Holiday Reading For Your Kindle

I’ve been enjoying my Kindle for years, but since we started travelling, Jules has taken to the plastic book as well. Although she prefers paper books when she’s at home, carting 4 or 5 around, with limited luggage weight allowance, made no sense, so for travelling, she’s a Kindle user too.

We use the basic model, and unlike a tablet, you can read them in bright sunlight, but there are also versions with a backlight, which are great if you want to read in bed without disturbing anyone else.  read more »

Postcard Exhibition

Visit the Casa Amarilla in Arrecife to see the exhibition “Lanzarote y la target postal” which is a collection of postcards that have been reproduced dating back to the XIX century. La Casa Amarilla is on Leon y Castillo, the main pedestrian shopping street in the capital, it’s open from 10:00 to 20:00 Monday to Friday, and Saturday 10:00 to 14:00.

1 January: Quedada de natación

Andrés Martín Ferrer and his family started a tradition amongst local swimmers to welcome in the New Year with a 1200m swim around the Islote de Fermina from Playa del Reducto in Arrecife. Now in it’s 5th year, the swim will take place at 13:00 and anyone is welcome to join in. This is a fun event, not a competition and due to the popularity, the Ayuntamiento de Arrecife are providing safety measures. All participants are invited for a hot chocolate on the beach afterwards. CANCELLED DUE TO ADVERSE WEATHER CONDITIONS.

The participating photograpies that took part on the Photography Contest  can be viewed until the end of February at Tinajo's Teatro Municipal, Monday to Friday from 9 to 14h and from 16 to 20h.

2-4 January: MalabHaría

Malabharia

MalabHaría is a popular circus festival held in Haria in the north of Lanzarote. These performers wow the crowds with a variety of circus acts over 3 days, which co-incides with a second hand market in the plaza.

Monday 2nd January: From 16:30 to 20:00 Christmas Flea Market in the Square. 18:00 Concert in the Square. 20:30 “Elegants” Show. Pabellón de Haría.

Tuesday 3rd January: From 16:30 to 20:00 Christmas Flea Market in the Square. 18:00 Concert in the Square. 20:30 Circus Gala in the Pabellón de Haría.

19:00 Parade of Your Majesties the Three Wise Men in Playa Honda departing from the Explanada de Guacimeta going through Calles Mástil and San Borondón to finish up in Calle Mayor (Outdoors Shopping Area)

Kings processions are held throughout the seven municipalities of Lanzarote, we will confirm where and when you can find Melchor, Gaspar & Baltasar riding camels once the festive programmes have been published.
15:45 Route through the villages of the municipality of Your Majesties the Three Wise Men, departing from Charco del Palo.
16.30 The Three Wise Men Parade in La Graciosa.
17:00 Grand parade of Your Majesties the Three Wise Men in the municipality of Tinajo. Departure from the Fútbol Pitch to San Roque's Square. 
17:00 Three Wise Men Parade in Yaiza. Your Majesties will be accompanied by the Municipal Ban, Yaiza's Comparsa, people in stilts, jugglers and children's characters. Departure from the Galería de Arte  passing through Calle Vista finishing up with a big party in Plaza de Los Remedios. 
18:00 Cabalgata de Majestades los Reyes Magos de Oriente in Tías. Departing from Restaurante Las Viñas along the Avenida Central and Calle Libertad to the Pabellón Municipal.
18:00 The Kings Procession in Arrecife, departing from Recinto Ferial finishing up at the Puente de Las Bolas with a teather performance at the entrance of the dock. 
19:00 Grand parade of the Three Wise Men, with representation of the house of Herod and giving away of gifts in the plaza de Haría. 
19:00 Parade of Your Majesties the Three Wise Men in San Bartolomé departing from the IES San Bartolomé going through the Avenida Alcalde Antonio Cabrera Barrera and Calle Rubicón to finish up in Parque Félix Rodríguez de la Fuente.
19:00 Parade of the Three Wise Men in Playa Blanca accompanied by Batucada Villa Pipol, Yaiza's Comparsa, people in stilts, jugglers and children's characters. Departure from the Centra Bus Station going along Calle Jaime Quesada and Avenida Papagayo finishing up in the Plaza del Carmen.
19.00 The Three Wise Men Parade. Historical Centre of  Teguise with entertainment groups. 
19:30 Cabalgata de Reyes in Puerto del Carmen. Departing from the Biosfera shopping centre passing through the old town to the Plaza del Varadero to collect letters from the children, before continuing along the Avenida de Las Playas.

7 January: Cantan a Disney en Navidad

Join the Jóvenes Cantadores (young singers) for a Christmas Disney spectacular at the municipal theatre in San Bartolomé. Tickets cost €10 from Casa Ajei. The show starts at 20:00.

7-31 January: International Music Festival of the Canary Islands

International Music Festival of the Canary Islands 2017

The Festival Internacional de Música de Canarias includes a variety of concerts in Lanzarote and La Graciosa during the month of January, plus one date in February 2017-

FIMC

This is the 33rd edition of the music festival to be held in the Canary Islands. The varied event programme will bring 650 musicians from around the world who will be performing 78 works during 89 concerts. The concerts have been split across the archipelago with 17 in Gran Canaria, 16 in Tenerife, 11 in Fuerteventura, 10 in La Palma, 10 in Lanzarote, 7 in La Gomera, 6 in El Hierro and 4 in La Graciosa.

The concerts taking place on the island of La Graciosa have free entry. The concerts in Lanzarote have an entry fee ranging from €8 to €20.

English Cinema in Lanzarote, 26th and 29th December 2016

The movie in English on the last week of the year remains unchanged:

"Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them" screened in Multicines Atlántida in Arrecife on Monday and Thursday at 19:25h.

Based on the book by J.K. Rowling and taking place seventy years before Harry Potter reads his book in school, it narrates the adventures of writer Newt Scamander (played by Eddie Redmayne) in the 1920s in New York's secret community of witches and wizards.  read more »
