Mirador del Rio, Lanzarote

The Mirador del Río. No mere photograph can do justice to the experience awaiting you at Mirador del Río. One of Manrique's early works, it was originally a look out point towards The Atlantic.

You should initially approach from the Haria road, and we recommend that The Mirador trip is combined with a visit to Haría. The usual Manrique calming influence hits you as soon as you enter, and the first thing you will find is a Tapas Bar with massive windows seemingly cut into the mountain side. You can then go out onto a balcony that will take your breath away. Below and to the left you will see the old salt pans, directly ahead The Island of Graciosa and chugging between Lanzarote and the island you may see the half hourly ferry boat which goes from Orzola. Below is a sheer drop of almost 500 metres. There are several telescopes, which you can use to enhance your vision, and also on the balcony you will find the immaculately clean toilets - another Manrique signature.

When you go back inside a spiral staircase takes you up to a small souvenir shop, and although it isn't sign posted carry on up past the shop and you will emerge onto the roof of the building for yet another amazing view.

When you can finally tear yourself away from The Mirador, we recommend that you turn right - this road will enable you to see the view for much longer - get your passenger to take some more photographs. It will eventually lead back to the main Haría road.
