They say location is everything in business and it’s even more true for bars and restaurants. So the new tapas bar, Vino Blanco in Marina Rubicon has picked an ideal spot, right in the middle of the marina and, more importantly on Wednesdays and Saturdays, right in the middle of the busy market.
Positioned next to the Lady Russ store, Vino Blanco has taken over a large part of the quayside, which it has covered in white sails to provide some welcome shade. There is a little deck at the side of the bar which has been painted black and white and there are lots of bright white tables, chairs and sofas. It only opened on 20th August and the waiters don’t know the table numbers yet so we saw some mixing up of bills (including our own) but it was all sorted in a good-natured way. More importantly, the prices are cheaper than many other bars in the marina.
The main group of customers were market-goers who were seeking out shade and refreshments. We will be keen to see how busy it is the rest of the week and at night. The new bar is owned La Casa Roja which is already established in the marina.
Most people were sitting outside in the middle of the market flow and we did too, as it’s great for people watching. The stalls that used to run down that area are now at the back of the building on the car park. This means there is less parking for market stall holders and visitors but it all adds to the busy flow of the market. However, if you walk through the bar (which is beautifully decorated) there is a cool open courtyard with more tables in amongst the trees.
The menu is mainly tapas we didn’t eat on this occasion so I’ll withhold comment until a later visit. The tortilla español looked especially good so we will go again and try the food.
We have found that some of the bars in the marina can get so busy on market day that the service becomes poor. Only Casa Brigida, right in the central plaza, seems to manage to stay busy and keep up its standards. We’re hoping that Vino Blanco becomes a good venue as it is in such a great spot, allowing really close up views of the yachts. Vino Blanco has free wifi, which must be a necessity for bars these days, and the staff were very pleased to tell everyone about their Facebook site. We’ll certainly go back soon.
