There was a lot of hype about the Air Europa aircraft which almost slid off the runway at Lanzarote airport at the end of October.
The aircraft was inbound from Glasgow and was landing from the land end of the runway, due to unusual wind conditions. At this stage the cause is unknown, but essentially the aircraft landed too far down the runway. This may have been caused by a bird strike, or wind shear, or even pilot error, but all will be revealed after the investigation is concluded.
The result was that the aircraft simply did not stop at the end of the runway, but carried on to the threshold, at which point the pilots slewed the aircraft around to help stop their forward progress. This caused damaged to the nose gear, but nobody was hurt, and all the passengers safely embarked via the slides.
The runway was closed for less than two hours, once the aircraft had been towed away. Despìte cleverly shot photos, it was never really very close to the beach, finishing it's run at least 40 meters back from the catch fencing.
British media talked about "terrified" passengers and described the aircraft as having come to rest a few yards from a busy beach. In reality the passengers didn't even know there was a problem until the last moments when the aircraft slewed around.
A corollary of all this is that Google had it's best day for years on searches for Lanzarote!
We'll keep an eye on the investigation and let you know what happened as soon as the information is released.

Hi José. I'm trying to find one which doesn't have a copywright. Keep checking back to see, unless you have one?
