There have been music events in Puerto del Carmen on St. Patrick’s Day in previous years which have generated great interest and have been the inspiration for this fun family day. The Irish community led by well known entertainer Charlie Chapman in collaboration with the tourism department have put together a full afternoon of entertainment for all the family to celebrate. Within this schedule will be the “Shamrock Walk” which will be a parade down the main Avenida of Puerto del Carmen. Everyone is invited to join in and “Be Irish for the day” Wear green if you have something but most importantly wear a smile and be ready for the craic. The Irish like the Canarians know how to enjoy themselves and as we have recently enjoyed Carnaval in all the towns of Lanzarote, we should be well practiced for the Shamrock Walk. The whole day’s events are scheduled between 01.45 and 20.30. There will be an entertainment tent set up on the beach side of the Avenida in PDC next to the tourism office just in front of Mulligan’s bar. 1.45 The entertainment kicks off with an authentic Irish dance demonstration accompanied by accordion. The energy of this traditional dance has to be seen to be appreciated. 2.00 Joey Bracken singing with guitar 2.30 Steven Gleeson entertains with guitar and vocals 3.15 Irish / Canarian combination of traditional music with fiddle and timple, played by Kerry man Donnie and Gorta 4.00 The Shamrock Walk will begin, starting at Hotel Fariones and making its way along the sea front promenade of Puerto del Carmen, until reaching Mulligans.
4.45 Gayle O’ Donovan will be back in the main tent heading up the second half of the concert, taking the music through to 6.45 with just a short break for another blast of traditional Irish dancing by a children’s dance troop based here in Lanzarote 6.45 Irish show 7.15 Fast and furious Irish dance 7.20 Celtic Experience The hour long dance and music show inspired by river dance, professionally choreographed and performed by a locally based dance troop. This is sure to be a great day out and the highlight of many people’s visit to the island next week. There’s a huge party atmosphere to the whole event and organizers feel its going to be the first of a long tradition of a St Patrick Day parade here in Lanzarote.
