After enjoying a scenic walk along the seafront promenade in Costa Teguise on Sunday afternoon we ended up at one of our favourite restaurants, Sommelier.
It is situated just behind the play park on the beach path which makes it a great venue for families. The major attraction for us here though is the fabulous Catalan inspired menu.
It is really great to go somewhere regularly and still be inspired by their menu each time. The menu is changed frequently but there is always an interesting selection of fresh salads, stone baked meats, their specialty is lamb, and a great selection of tapas and dishes to share.
They also have a menu of torradas which are giant open sandwiches which are a complete meal in themselves. A thick slice of bloomer loaf is grilled with olive oil and garlic and then topped with any of the ten or so fillings available. Goat’s cheese and roasted peppers, fillet steak with mushrooms, pork fillet, cream sauce and cheese, are some of the delicious options. Torradas are served with side salad or potatoes.
We always choose to have the most wonderful papas bravas, which are really thick slices of fried potatoes with a dollop of homemade garlic mayo and the best green mojo sauce on top. They are unbelievably tasty. Also firm favourites on the tapas menu are their homemade croquetas which are really melty inside, and the homemade meat balls with onion marmalade.
On Sunday we decided to share a salmon and prawn salad, it is large and filled with just cooked prawns, smoked salmon, capers, gherkins and olives with a light balsamic dressing. We also chose a mixed cheese plate which had a delicious choice of six cheeses, walnuts and apple slices.
Sommelier has a lovely chilled atmosphere due to its relaxed host Fernando and his team. The outside terrace offers shade and great views of the beach and park, and the interior of the restaurant has a trendy, lounge feel to it. Wifi is available here and you often see a local crowd enjoying the ambience, checking mails and reading the papers whist enjoying Fernando’s hospitality.
This Friday they are holding a “green party", it is a birthday celebration but typical of Sommelier is open to anyone to come along and enjoy it. The only stipulation is to wear green clothes! Two guest Dj’s will be providing the music and it’s sure to have a great crowd attending.
This friendly restaurant is well worth a visit if you are in the area and is one of my best recommendations for stress free meals out with the family.
