Puerto del Carmen, The Strip

The Strip General We were asked by one of our readers, Chris Simon if we could publish some photos of the finished “Strip" in Puerto del Carmen, the main coast road that runs along the front in the resort.

Work has stopped along the front, the new one way strip is finished and in place from the main beach Playa Grande up to the Casino and the traffic runs in the direction from the old town towards Matagorda, on the left of the new road are parking bays and on the right is a cycle lane and both pavements have been widened and resurfaced with new street lights and trees planted.

Although the road has not been finished from the Casino to the Hotel San Antonio the road is blocked off and running one way in this area, it doesn’t quite reach the San Antonio, the one way system starts from the road where the Spar supermarket is on the corner. Its understood that work will start in this section after the summer.

The Strip Los PocillosThe Strip One Way

The strip work was first started on the section running from the Hotel San Antonio to the roundabout before the Hotel Jameos Playa, this has been left as two directions with a bike lane on the right hand side.

Roadworks Biosfera RoundaboutRoadworks Old Town

There are road works in the side streets and particularly in the old town section of the resort, they mainly just affect the traffic which is being redirected through the Los Mojones area. This work is to add proper drainage so that the rainwater is kept away from the strip and should prevent flooding in this area in the future – good news for all of us as the sewer lids used to pop off with the pressure!

Please let us know if you have any more personal requests for photos or information in Lanzarote :-)

Update on Old Town

As of this morning, Fri 19 June, all of Calle Reina Sofia and past the roundabout at the top leading to Calle Salinas (into Los Mojoñes) is open again, both ways. :)

Fantastic thanks!

Thanks for the update Barbarella, I avoided the old town on my trip to Puerto Calero this afternoon just in case the traffic was bad, it was too hot to sit in a traffic jam :)
