Puerto del Carmen has suffered with “men at work” over the last 6 months with the main “strip” being updated and then the old town and even the harbour was having a new extension. We’re pleased to report that the Avenida de las Playas, or “The Strip” as its known locally is clear, it was a rush job for the Carnival but they did it, and its ready for Ironman in a couple of weeks. There is still some disruption in the old town, with traffic diversions on the main roads, but it will be worth it in the end!
I found myself with half an hour to spare in Puerto del Carmen last week and took the opportunity to walk along the promenade from the old harbour towards Puerto Calero, it was stunning! It was a beautiful afternoon and no-one around, this climb may look hard work but it slopes gently from side to side making it possible for everyone to enjoy the walk and views.
You really should take the time to walk this part of the coast, you can see the fish farm and Fuerteventura and some really posh, expensive properties!
