Playa Quemada is reminiscent of what Lanzarote would have been like before tourism. It’s a small seaside village where the residents are outnumbered by the goats that roam the hillsides. Situated at the foot of the mountains that are the Monumento Natural de Los Ajaches the village of Playa Quemada is nestled on the coast between Puerto Calero and the Punta de Papagayo.
The village has a very laid back and Spanish feel to it. On the morning I visited families were sitting outside their houses, some fishing from the beach and others cooling off with a swim before the heat of the day kicked in and siesta time began.
There are three restaurants in Playa Quemada, two of them are right on the sea front, these are the Restaurante Playa Quemada and Restaurante Salmarina.
The one I was drawn to was Restaurante 7 Islas, here they had a menu del día available for €7.95 and José the owner was very welcoming. They might not be situated on the sea front but they have a large shaded terrace with beautiful sea views and great service.
The village has a beach which was popular but if you wait for low tide or walk over the headland there is a fabulous empty black beach just around the corner.
There was a boat race from Puerto Calero sailing around buoys in the bay, it was lovely watching them tack and fly their colourful spinnakers.
You can easily walk to Playa Quemada from Puerto del Carmen or Puerto Calero along the headland or take the mountain bike route from Yaiza to Arrecife. Playa Quemada is a sleepy little fishing village, its well worth a visit when exploring Lanzarote.
