Playa Flamingo, Waiting for Sand

Playa Flamingo Left Playa Flamingo Right

As you can see from these photos taken at the weekend, the much loved Playa Flamingo beach in Playa Blanca has not been restored despite earlier promises it would be ready for use from the beginning of August.

It seems the current issue is deciding who is responsible for the replacement of the sand on this beach?

Tragsa won the project to restore the break waters (Proyecto de Rehabilitación de los Diques de Playa Flamingo) but they had not included any costs for the replacement of sand on the beach once the work was complete.

The sand required to create the beach will cost in the region of €7,000, this isn’t a huge sum of money for the parties involved. Who will step up to resolve this problem - Tragsa, the Ayuntamiento de Yaiza or the Costas department of the Ministerio de Medio Ambiente, Y Medio Rural y Marino (MARM)?

Without a doubt urgent action needs to be taken, in the meantime people are braving the rocks to try and access the sea especially during the heat wave we experienced in Lanzarote last week.
