At last, after months of campaigning and fund-raising, Playa Blanca can boast that it has its own library. On the main street, Avenue del Varadero, just up from the Calle Limones pedestrian shopping street, you can easily find the green doors of the Biblioteca Municipal.
The large airy room is decorated with art work and the shelves have books for everyone. There is a section for reference books and encyclopaedia and a well-stocked children’s library with child-sized chairs and tables. There are also sections for English language books and German language and some Canarian books. To join, you just have to sign up with your name, address and NIE number and then you can loan books for up to 20 days. It’s open from 9.30 to 21.00.
This has been a long project for Playa Blanca as the Facebook page Por una biblioteca en Playa Blanca (Lanzarote) shows. All the books have been donated and it’s great that it is now open and ready for everyone to use.
