New Year's Eve, Lanzarote

If you haven't already made plans of where to spend your New Year's eve in Lanzarote then I thought I'd tell you about my favourite one since living here. My ultimate restaurant is still Ikarus situated in La Villa de Teguise, the old capital, situated in Plaza Clavijo & Fajardo just down from the main landmark the church, Iglesia de Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe and Plaza de la Constitución. Ikarus offers a very warm welcome in an atmospheric building with local artist paintings displayed on the old stone walls, lots of original wood, a courtyard and cobbled floor. Despite the fact the restaurant is German owned, the menu is of a French style with specials of the day and unusual combinations. On New Year's Eve they offer a set menu, very reasonably priced to include 3 courses plus drinks including champagne and grapes at midnight. As the chimes from the church stroke twelve the party in the square starts with a huge firework display set over the church and Castillo Santa Barbara. Since celebrating here with friends some years ago, none since have compared, we finished the evening in Arrecife paddling on the beach and dancing the night away in the local bars.

The telephone number for Ikarus is 928 845 332 if you want to make your reservation!
