The Marlin Cup deep fishing event is organised by the Marina Rubicón Yacht Marina, Club Náutico Castillo del Águila and the IGFA Offshore World Championship attracting both local and international anglers. Bill Boyce a distinguished biologist from California will be the judge during the tournament, Bill is also a fisherman, underwater photographer and keen conservationist who has promoted a technique for catching these big fish during competitions which allows them to be caught, registered and released without harm. The Marina Rubicón Marlin Cup organisation are very keen to conserve the local marine environment and encourage responsible sport fishing with a method known as “mark and release”, by using a circle hook this curves back so it doesn’t hook inside the fish and cause damage to the specimen. When a marlin is caught the boat contacts the control team immediately who photograph and record the fish before it is released back into the sea. The winning team will be awarded a place in the World Championship to be held in Mexico in 2011. The agenda for the event can be downloaded as an attachment below.
