Lidl have inaugurated their logistics centre in Tenerife and confirmed that the 12 new supermarkets in (6) Tenerife, (4) Gran Canaria, (1) Lanzarote and (1) Fuerteventura will open during February / March 2010.
The individual Lidl supermarkets will start to open from the 4th February, each supermarket on the map of the Lidl Canary Islands website has an opening date, Lanzarote’s is noted as the 11th March 2010 and Fuerteventura 18th March.
The opening of the Lidl supermarkets and distribution centre has created 600 jobs in the Canary Islands.
Michael Aranda the general director for Lidl in Spain said that “finally Lidl is a reality in the Canary Islands.” “We have had many obstacles in the past that have now been overcome.” Mr Aranda explained that their objective is to lower the price of shopping in the Canaries, an average Canarian family will be able to save approximately 2,500 Euros each year if they shop in Lidl.
The Lanzarote store is situated on the Carretera de los Mármoles next to Ikea in Arrecife.
