The week was kicked off by sommelier Pedro de Diego, who gave a wine tasting course called “The sommelier at home” at Castillo San José. He also gave a talk about the peculiarities of the Malvasía taste from Lanzarote wines, where the grapes are grown in conditions unlike anywhere else on the planet. It produces a unique and instantly recognisable taste and bouquet.

Live radio broadcasts were made from Bodegas Rubicon, La Geria, El Grifo, Vulcano and Los Bermejos. Finally, our friends from Senderismo Lanzarote did a hike which ended at Bodega El Grifo, where the walkers were greeted with a tasting and live music.

Rafael Morales, who is the President of the regulatory council of Lanzarote’s denominacion origen spoke of his appreciation for the way the week had gone.

We’re hoping that if the event runs again next year, more will be done for English speaking tourists, who represent the largest majority of visitors to the island.
