Lanzarote Walk, Monte Corona

You can’t miss the Monte Corona, its the huge one at the North end of the island of Lanzarote overlooking Órzola, this is where the lava flowed down to the sea to create the tunnel that now forms the attractions of the Cueva de los Verdes and Jameos del Agua. I would recommend parking at the church in Ye and walk through the picón fields with old vines and almond trees until you start the gradual climb, there is a path but it was hard to spot when we last did the walk as there were lots of wild flowers in bloom and it wasn’t clear until we neared the top – the path is marked by stones on either side.

The corona itself is stunning, the path stops on a wide ledge overlooking the drop into the centre, it is a deep red in colour with bright green plants clinging to the side and light coloured scree for contrast. It wasn’t a clear sunny day on our walk but the views were still breathtaking, you have a panoramic view of the North coast,Órzola, Ye and over to the Mirador del Rio. We walked to the left of the corona and there was a different path for descent if you want it, but it was steep and with loose rocks and followed a stone wall back down into the village of Ye.

Below are some of the wild flowers seen on the walk although there were many to choose from.

Ye has a lovely sociedad with a single table and chairs outside if you want to stop for a cold beer on your way back!
