The Restaurante Gril Volcan de La Corona is situated in the village of Yé by the crossroads to the Mirador del Río. We decided to visit for Sunday lunch after a walk up Monte Corona, luckily we’d already decided to book a table in advance, as it was full by 2pm.
It was our first time eating at the Volcan de La Corona, this restaurant has a patio area with a few tables outside and a large dining room inside. On this occasion we preferred to sit outside, it was a lovely day and we had a table in the shade. The fresh mojo sauces delivered with bread were good, in fact the Mojo Verde was one of the best we’ve ever sampled.
The menu isn’t extensive at this restaurant, it’s all about the meat with a selection of tapas dishes as starters. We’d worked up an appetite walking, so Miguel ordered the grilled goat’s cheese and I ordered the Canarian stew for starters. I had food envy when they arrived and ended up stealing one of Miguel’s cheeses and it was stunning! My potaje was tasty, full of maize, chick peas and meat, but it was too much for just a starter and as I said earlier, this restaurant has a wood fired grill, so it’s all about the meat.
Miguel ordered steak which was beautifully cooked, very pink with a smoked flavour from the grill. It was his turn for food envy though, as when he tasted my lamb he declared it better than the steak, which is unheard of! Although the meat portions are big, they are only served with a handful of chips and spoonful of mixed vegetables, which is fine if you’ve had a starter first but it may not be enough as a main meal on it’s own.
This is a lovely restaurant, inside there is an open view up to Monte Corona, it’s very busy on a Sunday during the day, booking is recommended as a few families were turned away or asked to wait half an hour for a table.
