Lanzarote Restaurant Review, Namaste

We’ve enjoyed a few curries at the Corner Restaurant in Costa Teguise, when we heard the same owners were opening up a new Indian on the front we had to try it.

Namaste Costa Teguise

Namaste Indian is on the promenade by Playa Las Cucharas beach, the local was previously known as Shutters and is situated by the huge totem poles, it has a lovely view over the bay.

We received a warm welcome and were offered a table of our choice either on the terrace or inside the restaurant. It was a warm night, so we opted for a table on the terrace which is sheltered from the breeze by a glass screen. We asked for some papadums whilst we browsed the menu, we had a choice of spiced or plain with pickles. Miguel ordered the prawn puri for his starter, I thought I’d try something new and asked for the Bundi Jeera Raita. Admittedly the dish wasn’t what I expected, I was expecting balls of chick peas with a yoghurt dip, but the chick peas were in the yoghurt. The prawn puri was excellent, after a sample I was very envious!

For our main courses, I ordered one of the house specialities, the Namaste Special Curry, and Miguel decided on the Tandoori Mixed Grill. My curry was superb, I can’t recall when I enjoyed one as much. The dish contained lamb, chicken and prawns and cooked in a typical Indian style, the meat was delicious and tender, whilst the prawns were still firm, my compliments to the chef, this really is a special dish. My peshwari naan was gorgeous, very light and tasty. Miguel’s tandoori was an assortment of tikkas, kebab and prawns, this meat & fish fest beat him, sadly he couldn’t quite manage it all. The mixed grill is served with a separate sauce. Both of the curry dishes were cooked to our preferred level of heat.

Our bill came to €65, which is a bit more than we usually pay for a curry, however both of our main courses were from the more expensive end of the menu at €15-16.50 each. There are main dishes starting from €9.50. Namaste also offer a set menu for 2 priced at €28.00.
