Mercado Diecisiete

Lanzarote Restaurant Review – Mercado Diecisiete

Mercado Diecisiete is situated in Pueblo Marinero, the popular square in the heart of Costa Teguise. The square was buzzing, it was Friday night and the bars with outside tables were packed, we arrived at Mercado Diecisiete and were surprised to find it quiet, we received a friendly welcome and were offered a table of our choice.

We were only planning on a main meal but we were persuaded to have a little starter to share with our bottle of wine, the bread with tomato and Iberian ham was just right.

I really liked the restaurant design and decor, the kitchen is open with a market style display of the fresh produce. There’s a mixture of table and chair styles, part of the restaurant roof slides back to reveal the sky.

I had ordered the confit of cod which was a good sized piece of cod fillet which was served on a bed of sautéed spinach, that had pine nuts and raisins mixed in, with a honey rum sauce. The flavours worked well together, the fish was tender and I liked the sweet combination.

Miguel ordered the fillet steak with foie which was accompanied by a cheese & potato bake and served with a moscatel sauce. It was declared as wonderful, simply one of the best steaks he’d ever eaten.

Our waiter convinced me to have a dessert, so I had to try the sticky date pudding which I loved!

Price wise, starters range from 5-12 euros and main courses 9-18 euros, our bill came to €63 which included a bottle of El Grifo wine from Lanzarote. We really liked this restaurant and won’t leave it another year before returning.

For Information, we don’t give reviews in return for free food or advertising and we never tell the restaurant we’re planning to review them. We simply rock up, eat our meal, pay the bill, and then write our review.
