Antica Trattoria

Lanzarote Restaurant Review – Antica Trattoria Di Verona, Puerto Del Carmen

We were asked by friends if we had reviewed the Antica Trattoria Italian restaurant on the Avenida in Puerto del Carmen, Lanzarote.

When we replied no, not yet, we decided that a night out was in order. We booked a table for 8pm on a Friday night, the place was busy, there wasn’t an empty table when we arrived. There is seating along the balcony outside the restaurant, with a bar area and spacious dining room inside. We were a few minutes early so ordered our drinks at the bar before taking our place at a table in the far corner.

Although busy two things struck me, one was that the restaurant was lovely and cool despite the warm evening and the second was that there was plenty of staff at Antica Trattoria, making sure that all of the tables were being attended.  We took our time with the menus, the dishes arriving around us looked amazing, I was torn because a reader had given me a recommendation to try the garlic bread starter and penne al pollo for the main course.

Decisions made we ordered, the men had chosen the same – shrimp cocktail followed by steak with green peppercorn sauce, the ladies selected crepe with seabass including a cheese sauce and garlic focaccia bread for starters, spaghetti with tomato sauce and cheese ravioli with nut sauce for main courses. We asked for a recommendation on the wine requesting a fruity red.

Two waitresses arrived to present the starters at the same time, my focaccia garlic bread was superb and a good sized portion allowed me to share it with the table. The others didn’t really comment on their starters but they all cleared their plates. There was a pause before the main courses arrived, again all served at the same time. My ravioli was delicious, cooked to perfection with a creamy balance of cheese and nut flavour in every mouthful. Miguel had ordered his steak medium which was slightly more well done that he was expecting (normally here medium is served medium rare), but he did say it was fantastic and probably the best steak he had eaten in Lanzarote, if not ever!

We glanced at the dessert menu, the chocolate soufflé looked very tempting but as we’re now in training we decided to give the puddings a miss and ordered calypso coffees instead.

The meal at Antica Trattoria cost €35 per person, including tip, for the welcome drink, starters, main courses, one bottle of wine, one bottle of water and coffees.

In summary Antica Trattoria is an excellent restaurant in Lanzarote, we would advise booking in advance so as not to be disappointed at peak times and we’ll definitely be back to try some other dishes on the menu. Note, they also serve gluten free dishes for celiacs.

Located on the main strip, Avenida de Las Playas 53, telephone: 928 511 953.

For Information, we don’t give reviews in return for free food or advertising and we never tell the restaurant we’re planning to review them. We simply rock up, eat our meal, pay the bill, and then write our review.
