Lanzarote made the Financial Times this week, not for its economic status but its eco one. The article reports that Lanzarote could lose the Biosphere Reserve status awarded by United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) in 1993. The findings of a joint investigation with the Financial Times and the Bureau of Investigative Journalism were reported to UNESCO. The Cabildo de Lanzarote issued the following press release condemning the report published by FT as a hoax and confirming that a formal complaint will be made to the British Government and the British Embassy in Spain. |
