When I think of La Santa two things come to mind – Sport and Surf. Situated just down from Tinajo on the North West coast of Lanzarote, the sea is very strong and has fantastic surf, for those with the experience to handle it! Heading to La Santa from Famara and through Soo the road stops at La Costa, a small collection of houses on the edge of the Parque Natural del Archipiélago Chinijo which stretches along the coast North to Risco de Famara and covering the La Graciosa islands. The view here is spectacular with the pale sand and empty coast stretching for miles, and the deep blue waves with white surf rolling in. Take the turn off to the left and the large complex in front is the famous Club La Santa offering sports training to world renowned athletes and sporting holidays for families. There is lots of activity in this area, you can normally find runners and cyclists out enjoying the local climate and terrain. If you head past Club La Santa take the road on your right out to La Isleta, there is a sea water lagoon, which is safe and shallow, ideal for learning to windsurf, the area has been designed with lots of soft sandy areas to chill out, BBQ and its also popular for overnight camping. La Santa beach on La Isleta La Boca de Abajo beach, situated just past Club La Santa. Continuing along the main road into La Santa there is a place to pull off on the right where you can watch the surfers off the La Isleta coast. As you reach the town, park the car and wander along the Paseo Los Chalaneros (promenade), immediately on your right is the small harbour, its hard to believe that the local fishing boats launch from here into the surf. There is a coarse sandy beach at La Santa but its rocky underfoot if you’re brave enough to get into the water, use the harbour or lagoon area. You can hear and feel the pounding of the waves, whilst wandering the small streets! The place has a really good feel to it, there are some interesting shops such as La Santa Pro Bike, Centre Point Surf Shop and Sefon’s custom built boards. After all that sport there is a diverse choice of places to grab a bite to eat, if you want a snack try the Australian Surf Cafe and Panadaría, Amêndoa looked very inviting offering high class international cuisine such as foie gras, others that caught my eye were Restaurante Verde Mar close to the front and then along the Avenida el Marinero was Rio Azul, Los Delfines Pizzeria, Chinese Restaurant, Mama Africa and the Bike Shop Cafe. Even if you’re not sporty, La Santa still has something to offer, the coast is spectacular and its a place to watch the sun go down and eat great food! How to boogie board in Lanzarote |

Can anyone recommend an apartment or such like for me in this ar
I am meeting friends in Lanzarote around 19th - 26 November 2009, They are staying at Club La Santa, but it is a bit too much sport for my liking, I like to take my own pace....can anyone recommend an apartment, guesthouse etc in and around Club La Santa? Help will be much appreciated. Regards, Susie
La Santa or Famara
Hola Susie, There are apartments for weekly rent in both La Santa, the village close to Club La Santa or Famara a bit further away. Generally they are advertised by signs on them or word of mouth which won't help you to prebook one before you arrive! I did a quick local search on the internet and found the following around that area:
La Santa Surf Camp
Famara Rentals
Tinajo Rental
You could also try contacting some local companies in La Santa to see if they can recommend anything such as the Pro Bike shop in La Santa.
Hope this helps and you have a great chilled out holiday!
Hasta luego, Jules
P.S. Just found Kalufa Surf School in La Santa and they have a range of accommodation on offer!
