Memoria Lanzarote is a website dedicated to preserving historical images of Lanzarote, they were delighted recently when Nick & Elza Wagner gave them access to their La Graciosa collection from the 1970’s.
Nick & Elza arrived with the first group of German tourists back in Christmas 1969 and fell in love with the tiny island. Ángel Vázquez (consejero del Área) described the material as a “un tesoro gráfico” – a graphic treasure. The pair of German television directors took up residence in La Graciosa and have passed approximately 1,600 slides and 8mm films over to Memoria Lanzarote who are now busy digitilizing the information.
The collection has a very high historical value, there are many scenes of traditional island life which the couple wanted to be able to share with the Gracioseros and Lanzaroteños (people from La Graciosa and Lanzarote) so they can enjoy it too.
Have you been visiting Lanzarote for decades? Do you have old photos, negatives, film of the island? Memoria Lanzarote would be very interested to hear from you, they will digitilize your information before returning it along with your own digital copy.
