There are many dive schools on the island, in each of the resorts, and even in outlying villages. Island Watersports have been established here for many years, and have recently moved to new premises in Puerto del Carmen's old town, right in the harbour!
Georg the owner has lived in Lanzarote since 1998 and speaks an incredible five languages, he took 6 months out with Aida cruise ships as a dive coordinator and has also previously run a large dive school in Egypt before opening his own here in Lanzarote.
Georg and Trudi have designed the new building with divers in mind, and the results are impressive. To the right of the reception area, there is a huge wet room where kit can be hosed down, and next door are hot showers and changing rooms, with secure lockers. No more struggling to get changed on the side of the road!
IW also have a state of the art membrane compressor, and are therefore able to offer air as well as oxygen enriched air (Nitrox). They have high quality equipment for divers to hire, as well as a shop full of all kinds of diving gear.
Training is available, and the team are able to offer courses on behalf of PADI, CMAS and SSI, and there aren't many places better to carry out your first dives with a try dive.
IW offers dives all over the island, and Lanzarote is well renowned as a fabulous place for divers, with warm waters, amazing visibility and a fantastic selection of sea life from sea horses to angel sharks, and with lots in between. The school has it's own boat, and can get to all the best dive sites within moments, and it's just a short walk down to the boat in the harbour.
Upstairs back at the school, there's a huge training area where students can prepare for and take their exams, or attend lessons in diving theory.
The other great benefit of the new location is that they are in the middle of all the fabulous restaurants and bars in the old town, which are ideal for waiting partners or for a post dive drink.
