The number of cruise ship passengers calling into the port of Arrecife in Lanzarote increased by 45% during the first quarter of 2012.
According to data released by the Port Authority of Las Palmas 133,051 passengers arrived in Arrecife during January to March 2012, which represents an increase of 45% compared to the same period the previous year. The regular ferries operating from Los Mármoles have also reported a positive increase with nearly 4,000 cars and 14,510 passengers representing a rise of 32.2% & 35.2% respectively.
The Port Authority have also announced that they start work to improve the new cruise pier to allow docking for larger vessels.
Our photo was taken on the 19th April when the Aida Bella, Insignia & Thomson Destiny cruise ships were in harbour for the day, pictured together with the Armas ferry leaving port. It was interesting to see the Destiny moored on the opposite side, the access for passengers walking into the capital is much easier from this position and were noticeable in their numbers crossing the road by the Charco de San Ginés.
