Hunting Dogs Poisoned

Jorge Podenco SARA Last Sunday was the first official hunting day of the season and at least a dozen (podencos) hunting dogs ingested poison whilst hunting in the Teguise area of Lanzarote. Unfortunately seven of the dogs died, four are still recovering with vets and two are missing presumed dead.

Please be vigilant and take extra care if you walk your dogs in the Teguise area, the poisoned zones were described as near the cemetery, the garage, the church - Ermita de San Rafa and the area known as Jai.

If your dog is effected by poison, they need to see a vet immediately for the antidote. If you’re concerned and walk your dog in the countryside, a syringe of the antidote can be requested from the vet for you to carry and administer. Apparently the poison was laid in the form of food and pink in colour, it has also affected a number of birds.

The news was reported by Canarias 7.
