Halloween & All Saints Day

Flowers Halloween is a growing tradition in Lanzarote, a few years ago you could only find pumpkins available but now the fiesta shops have costumes and decorations and some of the businesses have special events for children and adults to celebrate the night. Halloween doesn’t quite feel right in a warm climate, it should be cold and dark outside! We haven’t had local children knock at the door for trick and treating as yet but we have carved pumpkins for our own kids in previous years.

The Spanish tradition at this time of year is Todos los Santos, all saints day celebrated on the 1st November, this is a day when you remember the dead so groups of relatives visit the cemetery to place flowers on the graves of their loved ones. All Saints Day is a religious feast to honour all saints and was originally celebrated in May but was moved over ten centuries ago to the 1st of November to offset the pagan rituals.
