If you think you are a curry queen or master Tiffin maker, Gangas café in Tias is hosting a competition which could be just what you’ve been waiting for. The team at Gangas is always coming up with new ideas and this one is a winner!
The competition is a “cook off” whereby to enter you choose a date over the coming eight weeks when you want to bring in your dish. It can be any recipe of your choosing but you need to bring around 30 portions into the café by 5.30pm. It is heated and served in a numbered blind tasting to all the diners that night who then vote for their top three curries. Points are then awarded according to the votes given by the diners. 1st is 3 points, 2nd is 2 points and 3rd is 1 point. Bring along friends and family to sample on your evening to see if they can spot and vote for your dish. Your scores are then put on the leader board and the grand final on November 30th will feature the top three curry cookers. There will be 2-3 guest curries, depending on numbers of entrants, alongside 3-4 curries cooked by the Gangas kitchen team each week. Gangas generously give each entrant a voucher for 20€ to use in their food store which has an excellent range of herbs and spices. You can collect your voucher at any time during the week before your place in the cook off. If you just want to sample and vote on the curries then it’s even simpler, just come along each Saturday night from 6pm onwards to try out the curry buffet. You can sample the six curries, with rice, chips and naan bread for only 5€. The help yourself curry buffet makes up one of the great value evening menus constantly offered by Gangas alongside their famous carvery on Sundays and Wednesday, Pie and a Pint on Thursday or Fish and Chip supper on a Friday, all remarkably priced at only a fiver. I am throwing my popadom into the ring and have got a date at the curry cook out and if you want to join in too just pop into the café or call Joey on 616 642 967. |
