Gangas Café, Tías

There have been some surprising changes recently at everyone’s favorite discount store, Gangas in Tias. One of which is the new opening of their café.  In the name of research I took my hungry 14 year old with me for a spot of lunch on Saturday!

Gangas Café 1 Gangas Café 2

The upstairs café has been re-designed with comfy couches and stylish furniture from the Gangas store throughout. This works really well with the dark Spanish wood work features of the space. They have cool jazzy background sounds, a mix of daily newspapers to read and have created a really nice relaxed feel. I noted it is a non smoking café which would always be my personal preference.

We chose to chill out in a cozy corner sofa area and check out the menu and I had a word with one of the girls to ask about their opening hours.

From Monday to Thursday they are open from 8am - 9pm, serving breakfast and lunches with a tapas / specials menu which runs throughout the day. They have installed a “sub station” where they display and make up giant sub sandwiches; the choice of fillings makes it mouth wateringly difficult to choose. There is a lovely deli choice of coronation chicken, bbq chicken and chicken tikka, prawns, roast beef, pork or turkey, cooked ham, egg mayonnaise all served with salad to name a few!

Friday and Saturday from 8am - 11pm when in addition to the above they also serve evening meals and intend to run themed nights such as Asian night with spicy curry theme, Brazilian BBQ night with salsa music.

Sunday from 9am - 9pm, when there is a special Sunday breakfast buffet and Sunday roasts served from 1pm. This Sunday, May 9, they have entertainment with Collie Farrel, lead singer of the usual suspects, from 5pm.This will be a chill out Sunday session, with extra space for diners created in the upper foyer of the Gangas store.  In addition to Sunday roasts you can also have BBQ.

Gangas Coronation Chicken Sub Gangas Bacon & Egg Baguette

For our lunch I chose a coronation chicken sub which was really well filled with lovely chunks of chicken breast in a mild curry spiced mayonnaise at 2.50€ and I had a mug of frothy coffee with it, which is amazingly priced at only 75c. Jake had a bacon and egg baguette, 2.00€, with fresh orange juice. This breakfast roll was also really packed with well cooked bacon and a soft cooked egg. It was quite a struggle not to dive in to our lunch before I had taken a few photos!

The prices are an eye opener as they are un-believably tiny for the quality and quantity in them. The staff are very friendly and helpful and there is such a lovely buzzy atmosphere in the café, you can guarantee it will add to the super success of this store.
