The Full Monty Breakfast

Jesters There are times when only a cooked breakfast hits the spot: after a night out, Sunday mornings and especially when on holiday and you have the time to enjoy it. I recently enjoyed a week off from work and tried and reviewed a couple of brekkies.

With a trusty team of tasters our first stop had to be the amazing deal at Jesters bar in Costa Teguise, only 1€ for a Full English.

We had seen the bill board and when we entered the bar there were already a few locals and holiday makers tucking in with gusto. The outside terrace is very spacious and appeared to be a popular spot for young families. With euro coins at the ready we ordered the breakfast. Service was very friendly and efficient and in no time we had our breakfasts. It comprised the full complement of egg, bacon, sausage, beans, toast and butter. All made with English products. Jesters Full Monty Breakfast Two of our tasters don’t like beans and were given extra sausages which really proved this bars determination to go the extra bit (or bite) in pleasing their customers.

We all agreed on the plus points as being dippy eggs with well cooked whites and hot beans, all in all superb value and really tasty. Drinks obviously weren’t included in the price but were priced at 1.50€ for mugs of tea or coffee or glasses of breakfast juice. The rest of their menu also seems very good value and I’m sure Jesters are winning lots of fans in Costa Teguise.

La Cantina Don Rafael Our second stop later in the week was to Don Rafael’s La Cantina on the seafront at PDC. This place had a personal recommendation from a friend and so was chosen for this reason.

The location here is great, right on the promenade and its no surprise to hear on busy days this restaurant is turning out breakfasts in their hundred’s.

We again ordered the special breakfast which is priced at 2.50€ but includes orange juice and tea or coffee. The drinks arrived in a couple of minutes and shortly after came our breakfasts. Here the full Monty is made up of 2 eggs, bacon, sausage, beans, fried whole tomato, chips, and 2 toasts with butter and marmalade. A super spread, with high points which must include that the plates were piping hot and so kept the breakfast and beans especially at a good temperature. The bacon was thick cut Spanish bacon which was nice and crispy and very tasty. La Cantina Full Monty Breakfast The chips for me were surplus to requirements although the kids loved them with their dippy eggs. The orange juice appeared to be fresh squeezed with pulpy bits and we enjoyed nice frothy coffees.

This restaurant is really spacious with a fresh, contemporary design and squeaky clean loos! Their evening menu is very varied but in keeping with their Mexicana style image.

Unfortunately I didn’t make it down to Playa Blanca on this particular taste tour but would love to hear back from anyone with recommendations for a breakfast in PB. Also let me know if you agree with these choices or have a particular favorite of your own.

My intrepid tasting team has been recently up holding a Lenten chocolate fast but as this is now finished we are planning a “cake of the week” tour and I’ll keep you posted on this!
