Mick Reeves contacted us this month to tell us how good the live Flamenco show is at the restaurant La Terracita in Playa Blanca, Lanzarote.
For several years now we have visited Playa Blanca in October. As our resort seems to specialise in entertainment which is tacky and old-style British, we are always on the lookout for some quality, Spanish acts. Then last October we discovered La Terracita on Saturday nights. A long, narrow tapas bar in the Calle Limones shopping area and opening out onto a splendid sea-view terrace!
On Saturday nights (check for days and times) a small troupe consisting of a virtuoso old Spanish guitarist (looking like Carlos Santana!), superb girl singer and another girl and a young male dancer. The girl dancer warrants special praise as she tapped, clapped, spun and whirled at furious speed, seemingly possessed by the spirit of flamenco. If you want proper Spanish Flamenco then this felt like the real deal, and in such an intimate venue! I guarantee you will not be disappointed (unless of course you wanted "Strictly"-style glamorous, glossy flamenco).
At the end the performers invited diners to come up and have a go en-masse, which was more or less embarrassing depending on how much tequila you had consumed! We had a thoroughly exciting evening and then took a couple of friends on the next Saturday who were also very impressed. You only need to find a table and order a drink, maybe a tapas dish or 2 and the entertainment comes free. There was (in half-term week) no need to book. In 6 trips to Playa Blanca we have never seen such great Flamenco! I hope Lanzarote Information. readers pay La Terracita a visit on the strength of this, although do check that the flamenco troupe is still on as they are not a resident act. This is something I hope we can take our friends and family to in years to come!
