During the FITUR event an agreement was signed with Canadian tour operator Total Vacations, they will be offering holiday packages to the Canary Islands which for the trial period of 6 months will mean a flight connection with the mainland of Spain but if proved successful direct flights from Canada will be introduced. Additionally Arrecife the capital of Lanzarote was twinned with Recife a coastal town in Pernambuco, Brazil. Recife is the oldest capital in Brazil dating back to 1537 and the name is derived from the coastal reefs as was Arrecife. Both places are cities with tourist appeal and the councils will be sharing their information and experiences to forge a strong bond. The “Say No to Winter Blues” campaign has been very well received by both the travel industry and tourists, during the travel fair the tourist board also signed agreements with Spanair, Aer Lingus and Jet 2 securing their flight schedules to the island. The islands are being marketed with four different categories to highlight the appeal for various kinds of holidays including family, wellness, water sports and volcanic experiences. Additionally Lanzarote was voted the best destination for sun and beach by the Irish Travel Trade for the eight consecutive year! |
