The Canary Islands recorded a drop in visitors from the mainland during 2011 as Spanish tourists elected to take shorter holidays and stay closer to home last year. Deputy Minister, Ricardo Fernández de la Puente wants to regain this domestic market during 2012 making the seven Canary Islands a priority destination for Spanish travelling from the mainland.

The stand will be the same one as used for the World Travel Market in London and Berlin. This interactive area will cover 1825m2 focussing on the territory, identity and diversity of the Canary Islands. Interactive touch screens allow visitors to view photos, watch video and turn the pages of a book making the most of modern technology to promote the Canaries. Other elements include a volcanic garden with native flora, wine and cheese tasting and information about the heritage of the islands with emphasis on aboriginal paintings and body art.
