The Belén (nativity scene) will be revealed at 8pm on the 17th December, this is situated in Plaza Camilo José Cela, the town’s Christmas lights will also be switched on during the unveiling and there is a children’s carol concert at 8.30pm. Due to popular demand, the Ruta de Tapas returns and this time its a much longer period from the 17th December through to the 6th January 2010. Both La Villa de Teguise & Costa Teguise tapas bars will be offering a tapas of the day plus a drink for €2.50 giving you the ideal opportunity to try the variety of Lanzarote tapas and drinks. The list of bars that participated last year can be seen on our previous posts Ruta de Tapas y Vinos and Tapas in Costa Teguise. If you visit 80% of them you have the chance to enter into a competition – nothing like encouraging us to eat and drink too much! Collect your special card (pasaporte de participación) from the tourist office in Costa Teguise for full details of the bars and restaurants participating this year.
Christmas Carols and Traditional Canarian Folklore concerts at the Convento de Santo Domingo on the 26th and 29th December. Performances from la Agrupación Folklórica La Gran Aldea, la Parranda El Golpito, el grupo Acatife, Guanapay y los Cebolleros de Gáldar. New Year’s Eve is spectacular in Teguise, the old capital of Lanzarote. The evening starts at 11.30pm with a traditional New Year’s celebration including champagne toast, grapes and a fantastic firework display illuminating the church and castle – all free of charge and its a great atmosphere.
