The fiesta in honour of Nuestra Señora de Nazaret start on the 31st July 2009. This year the Lanzarote locals have planned lots of Canarian activities as part of the celebration, the one special event will be the annual donkey races (la carrera de burros). The donkey race has been one of the fiesta activities for the past 14 years, but this year they are hoping to have the biggest event yet. Anyone with a donkey wanting to participate can register on the day of the contest which is Sunday 9th August and the race starts at 5pm. The winners receive two sacks of alfalfa! The full programme of events including the asadero on the 11th August at 9pm are detailed below.
