This coming weekend it’s the pilgrimage to Mancha Blanca for Lanzarote’s biggest fiesta Nuestra Señora de los Volcanes which is also known as the Fiesta de la Virgen de Los Dolores.
If you are here on holiday, please feel free to join in, the local costume is available to buy in the shops at very little cost it really is a fantastic event – you will be made to feel very welcome if you make an effort to blend in. We normally like to start our Romería de Los Dolores walk from the Monumento Campesino which is around 9km in total. For the past 12 years the fiesta has been accompanied by the Feria Insular de Artesanía where local artisans sell their art and traditional crafts. The craft fair will be based in the recinto ferial (big tent) which will be inaugurated at 7pm on the 10th September and then open each day after from 10:30 to 21:00 until the 15th September 2010. Los Dolores is a time of celebration and tradition, families and friends make the long journey from all over Lanzarote on foot to the tiny village of Mancha Blanca in Tinajo. On Saturday the 11th September you will see people walking along the roadside in traditional Canarian costume and some of the roads will be closed to traffic close to the church.
