In the Plaza opposite the church in the centre of Playa Blanca, the Feria de Patchwork (Patchwork Exhibition) is running until 16th August between 10.00 and 22.00 and is well worth a visit.
This the third Feria (Fair) organised by the education and culture department of Yaiza and you can view the amazing artwork and buy pieces too. There are bedspreads, wall hangings, bags and clothes. There are 3 main award winners displayed in the marquee for quilting and appliqué.
The people on the stands are very welcoming and extremely skilled in their craft. They’re also happy to talk to visitors, giving advice and information. In particular, Isabel Valcárcel, who organised the event and who teaches patchwork and quilting, is an expert in this skilled technique.
