The first Enduroman Lanzarote Festival Triathlon was held in Playa Blanca during February this year, the event returns on the 4-5th February 2012. Most people have heard of the Ironman Lanzarote and how tough it is, spare a thought for these triathletes some of whom will be participating in the Double Enduroman which is double the Ironman distance and spanning two days! The Double Enduroman Lanzarote is the only event within Spain to be included in the International Ultra Triathlon Association World Cup series 2012. The event isn’t just for the ultra athletes, there are four distances available for triathletes to participate in: Olympic Enduroman - swim 1.5 km, bike 40 km & run 10 km Half Enduroman – swim 1.9 km, bike 90 km & run 21 km Enduroman - - swim 3.8 km, bike 180 km & run 42.195 km Double Enduroman – swim 7.6 km, bike 360 km and run 84.39 km With just under 10 weeks to go, 85 people have already signed up to participate including Gregorio Cáceres Morales from Lanzarote and Paul Thompson from the UK to defend his title, for the women there is pro athlete Joanna Carritt from UK and Violeta Tatay from Spain - all for the double race which is proving the most popular race for entries to date. Currently there are 34 entries for the Double, 4 for the Enduroman, 18 for the Half and 29 for the Olympic distances. The swim will be based at the town beach in Playa Blanca this year, the bike course route is a loop from Playa Blanca, to Yaiza and El Golfo and the run will be along the promenade from the town centre to Marina Rubicón. The first race to start will be the Double Enduroman on Saturday 4th February at 14:00, the other three races start on Sunday with the Enduroman at 08:00, Half Enduroman at 10:00 and Olympic Enduroman at 12:00. The first athlete from the Double Enduroman is expected to finish around 14:00 on Sunday, they have 38 hours in which to complete the distance before the cut off at 02:00 am on Monday 6th February. This is by far the biggest sporting event so far for the South of Lanzarote, special rates have been negotiated at several local hotels close to the race centre for triathletes and supporters to stay close by.
