Darren and Debbie Spurr own the fabulous restaurant La Cabaña in Mácher, Lanzarote.
We met with them recently and asked that question “So how did you end up living in Lanzarote?” Debbie explained that Darren had lived in Lanzarote over 20 years ago as a young guy with a bunch of lads and had returned to the UK for his catering career which took him to work with Marco Pierre White and some excellent restaurants. When a friend asked if they fancied house sitting in Lanzarote for 6 months the couple thought why not take an extended holiday…… that was 10 years ago!
Darren opened his first Lanzarote restaurant in La Santa during 2001. It was during a night off from Guatifay that they got chatting to the owners of an Italian restaurant in Mácher and in late 2002 they took over the location and La Cabaña was launched.
The restaurant is situated on the main road from Arrecife to Playa Blanca, on the right hand side just past the petrol station. Offering a combination of freshly sourced different ingredients with a menu that changes weekly La Cabaña is very popular with local residents and is frequently listed in everyone’s top ten favourite restaurants to eat in Lanzarote. We promise to bring you a restaurant review of La Cabaña soon but for a quick taster here are some of this week’s options:

Seared Scallops in a Mildly Curried Garlic Butter
Trio of Pork (Pork loin, sausage, belly pork & crackling) with Apple Compote
La Cabaña is always on the look out for something different to include on the menu, Debbie said they’ve even been able to offer zebra and kangaroo meat which has got to be difficult to source in Lanzarote.
The restaurant is open from Tuesday to Saturday from 7pm and booking is advised although you will be welcome if you just turn up and there is a table free. La Cabaña can accommodate up to 25 diners in the dining room and covered terrace area making it an ideal location for special occasions with family and friends.
Alternatively Darren and Debbie will come to you! The couple also offer a service where you can book them to cater at your house so you can enjoy their food at home for birthdays, weddings, christenings or just because you can.
Please have a read of the customer reviews on the La Cabaña website, don’t save this fine dining restaurant just for a special occasion and do tell your friends.
