Día de Canarias Events 2009

The Cabildo have announced a programme of more than 40 events across the archipelago in celebration of the Día de Canarias on the 30th May. The diverse range of events which will be taking place in the lead up to the 30th, has been planned to unite the seven islands and bring together different communities their motto for this year is "Mirar siete islas y ver un solo pueblo" which translates as “watch seven islands and see a single town”. There is also an event planned outside of the Canary Islands, so if you’re in Valencia please go and see the Romería Canaria in the Plaza Mayor near the cathedral at 11am on the 30th May. Pueblo Marinero, Costa Teguise

Pueblo Marinero is host to a full day of Canarian activities on Día de Canarias on Saturday 30th May from 9am to 7pm.

The Ayuntamiento of Teguise has invited 5,000 people from neighbouring municipalities and local companies to come and join in the fun. You can expect local music, games, sport, food and drink tasting. Here is the programme, unless stated the activities are in the Pueblo Marinero:

9am to 11am - 1200m Swim at Playa Jablillo
11am to 1pm - Regata de Jolateros, Playa Jablillo
11.30am to 12 - Canarian wrestling (Lucha Canaria)
12 to 12.20 - Typical Canarian dancing
12.30pm - Tasting of gofio
1.30pm to 2pm - Typical Canarian music
2.30pm - Tasting of papas arrugadas with mojo (wrinkly potatoes)
4pm to 5.15pm - Parranda El Golpito
4pm to 8pm – Torneo de bola Canaria, next to Hotel Los Zocos
6pm to 6.30pm – Typical Canarian music

Playa Blanca

The Ayuntamiento of Yaiza invites everyone from the municipality to two concerts in Playa Blanca on Saturday to celebrate Día de Canarias. The first one will be held in Calle Limones at 11.30am with the Banda Municipal de Yaiza y de Los Salineros de La Hoya, the second concert will be at 6pm also in Calle Limones but this time with the Agrupación Folkllórica Rubicón y la Parranda Janubio.
