There’s a beautiful cycle route coast road in the North of Lanzarote, our suggested route is approximately 30 km taking in seaside villages, two visitor attractions and stunning beaches.
Start from the car park at Playa La Garita in Arrieta, to find this turn into Arrieta at the roundabout with the wind toy, then at the mini roundabout turn right, following the road to the right and then left until you reach the beach.
Exit the car park by following the road straight ahead then second or third right and left to reach the mini roundabout again, follow the road straight on and through the village along the coast. Shortly after the restaurant El Lago there is a left turn, we normally take this to join the main coast road, there is a second turning ahead if you want to cycle through the village of Punta Mujeres first.
Follow the main LZ-1 towards the direction of Órzola, between 4-5 km you can elect to stop and visit either or both of the Jameos del Agua or Cueva de los Verdes attractions. If there’s a strong north wind blowing, the outward leg of this journey can be tough against the headwind but it’s more than made up for with the tailwind on the return! The road cuts through the volcanic landscape created by the majestic La Corona volcano which can be seen in the distance. It’s not a road with heavy traffic, but the vehicles can be travelling at some speed, there are various spaces for parking to allow access to the beautiful white beaches along this section of the coast, the biggest of which is called Caleton Blanco.
After 13 km you will reach a junction and the village of Órzola, turn right to drop down into the harbour area where there is a selection of places available for food and drink as well as a supermarket. We return the same way, normally carrying straight on at the villages of Punta Mujeres and Arrieta to connect back with the wind toy roundabout back to the beach. We use this as a training loop, it’s one of those rides you can really push for speed or just enjoy the views. The Chiringuito tapas bar on the beach serves a well deserved cold beer in frozen glasses after your ride and if you’ve worked up an appetite, the food’s great too.
If you don’t want to come back the same way, you can turn left at the junction in Órzola, there’s a climb of 300m over 5km up the LZ-204 to connect with the LZ-201 from Ye which offers a high speed downhill circular route back to Arrieta.
