We lived in Arrecife for a year, just around the corner from the shopping centre C. C. Arrecife which is situated on the Rambla Medular opposite the Ciudad Deportiva football ground and Estación de Guagua (bus station).
Over the past year the centre has been going through a phase of refurbishment, there is still one area closed off inside. Outside the empty plots of land have been built into an underground car park, shops and apartments, there is a pedestrian street and the whole area has a new, up market feel to it.
We parked in the underground car park which is signposted when you drive up to the centre, parking was free for shoppers although I don’t know how we were identified as such but when we put the ticket in later it was a zero charge. The shops in the street here were interesting, there was a party shop, opticians, mobile phone outlet and a large clothes shop with clothes for men, ladies and children from different stores.
Inside the centre we made for the market which is on the ground level, there is a fruit and vegetable stall El Huerto, organic stall which was closed when we visited, frozen goods from AfricaMar, a butcher’s Charcuteria Antonio and a bakery / coffee shop Panadería which sold the Lebanese delicacies Baklava.
On the first floor there is a large Eurospar supermarket stocking many of their usual British products apart from sliced English bread, don’t worry about filling the trolley there are lifts back down to your car! The centre has got lots of individual units including a florist, shoe shop, herbal shop, stationery shop, pet shop, hairdressers, sports shop, baby equipment shop, photographers, sweet shop and clothes too.
