The well known Channel 4 TV program has been filming an episode on the island over the last ten days. We’re not allowed to tell you who the five celebrities are yet, but we can tell you a little about what they’ve been up to.
RDF Television make the program, and they first contacted us when they found our site by searching for information on Lanzarote. We were able to put the production team in touch with various people, and they in turn invited us to a couple of the events.
The essence of the show is that the five celebrities have to carry out various tasks, and then vote each other off until there are two left. The winner is then selected by a panel of judges, made up of people who have been a part of the tasks during the week.
As well as an encounter with local goats, a session in a Canarian wrestling ring, a Go Karting race and visits to various Lanzarote attractions, the celebrities also had an adventure on La Graciosa which we took part in. I won’t spoil the story, but it involves stealing a ship and searching for hidden treasure, and we were there as pirates and crew! I can tell you it was a really good fun day, which finished with over night camping on La Graciosa.
Yesterday was the final day’s shooting, and we were joined in Arrecife by the mayor, Cándido Reguera and the tourism councillor, Carmen González, who together with the judging panel, selected the winner based on their performance during the week, and on the final task. The filming took place outside San Ginés church in the capital and drew a fair sized crowd.
We’ll post much more detail and photographs of the celebrities enjoying Lanzarote as soon as we are able. But in the meantime, here are some of my personal observations:
The celebrities were way more approachable and far less aloof than I expected
They LOVED Lanzarote
The “Backroom” people on a TV shoot work incredibly hard
Camera and sound men spend their lives attached to each other by cables and are extremely funny
Making a TV show is 92% standing around waiting, and 8% “Action”
Lanzarote is the perfect place to shoot a TV program – the light is incredible, the weather perfect and the island is populated by welcoming and talented “Extras” who are more than happy to get stuck into anything!
The show should air during June, and we’ll publish the dates as soon as we have them, so look out for it, and you’ll see some stunning images of the island as well as a few faces you might know!
