Carnival is a fantastic time to enjoy some winter sunshine in Lanzarote as it tends to coincide with the half term school holidays.

Only the Ayuntamiento de Tías had confirmed the date for Puerto del Carmen prior to this morning, when the Ayuntamiento de Teguise sent us the provisional dates for the remainder of the carnivals in Lanzarote for 2016.
Teguise council have just opened a vote for their theme, which includes 1001 Arabian Nights, Pure Brasil Carnival, Gods of the Sea and a Tribute to Carnival Groups. If you want to have your say, just click the voting box on the top right of their website “"(teguise dot es) before the 18th October. They are planning to present their carnival poster at Fitur in Madrid. The theme was voted in as 1001 Arabian Nights. A poster competition for the Carnaval de La Graciosa, Costa y Villa de Teguise 2016 has is open until the 29th January 2016, when the winning design will be announced.
Arrecife council have created a new website (carnavalarrecife dot com) which should be launched within the next week. The website will initially have a vote for the 2016 theme, with three options including Carnival Movies, Carnival of Fear and Cabaret Nights. After the theme has been decided a competition will be launched for the poster design. Finally the website will be updated with the Carnival programme for the Lanzarote’s capital. Update: With more than 40% of the votes, Un Carnaval de Miedo is the theme for Arrecife. Think Freddy Kruger, Exorcist or any of your favourite horror movies.
Tinajo council have invited suggestions for their carnival theme to be emailed to cultura@tinajo dot es from the 17-29th November. Voting with then open for a week from the 30th November to 6th December for the top three themes suggested. A competition for the carnival poster will be held from the 8th to 20th December.
Haría council have opened a vote for three themes for their carnival, choose from Lejano Oeste (Wild West), Bosque Encantado (Enchanted Forest) or El Imperio Romano (The Roman Empire) before the 10th January on their website ayuntamientodeharia dot com. The Enchanted Forest was the most popular theme and won the votes in Haría.
