There are any number of car hire companies on the island, ranging from the multi national companies you will all be familiar with, to small local firms you may never have heard of - we only recommend Plus Car. Hiring a car on the island is the best way to travel - you can see all the sites at your own pace, and in comfort. Visit Teguise market on a Sunday, go and see the cactus gardens, or have a look at Timanfaya, you'll enoy them all much more in your own car than you would in a bus following somebody else's timetable.
You can either arrange your car hire directly from and back to the airport, which means you won't have to get the bus to your accommodation, or you can arrange to collect it from your resort, which means you can just hire for a few days during your stay.
We wouldn't recommend using someone you have never heard of, as the cars can be a little ropey - you need the air conditioning to work for example!
