Last weekend saw the final of the Kiteboarding Championship of Spain (Campeonato de España) 2009 in Famara, Lanzarote. The competition comprised of Freestyle, Racing and Olas (waves) events. This year saw the highest number of participants with over 84 competitors and excellent wind conditions. The judges were really surprised at the speeds attained for the racing event and the spectacular maneuvers delivered by the best riders in Spain, in fact according to Raúl Arellano, the president of the Spanish Federation of Kite (AEK), & Sami Gali, the organiser of the event they agreed that Famara had been the best championship celebrated in Spain to date, which bodes well for the return of the event next July 2010.
The winners of the overall category for the men's events was Sergio Perera Zurita and Ainoha García Pallares for the women's, both of whom are from Andalucía. Below are the top 3 positions of the individual events and the full list of the overall positions:

One to watch in the future is Lanzaroteña Almundena Naranjo, who impressed the judges after practicing for only four months, she managed to take top position in the waves event, forcing Ainhoa García into second place. It was great to see both Canarian José Luengo - three times world champion, and Abel Lago currently ranked 3rd in the world waves circuit, in action in Famara, Lanzarote.
